My name is Stella and I was born in Bonnybridge. I started painting a couple of years ago.
I lost my mum in 2023 and was going through a challenging time at work, I needed something to help heal me. I was wondering around an art store and picked up a small watercolour set and fell in love.
Having no experience and never painted before I took a different approach and I loved the way that the watercolour paint flowed across the paper, creating blooms, soft edges and unexpected patterns. I discovered by allowing it to take its own path you could create something that was unique and emotionally resonant.
Watercolour taught me how to surrender to uncertainty, to trust the natural flow, and to find beauty in what cannot be predicted.
I am inspired by the ever changing Scottish landscape and our atmospheric weather, my semi abstract paintings explore mood and memory.
I would invite people pause, interpret and engage in their own debate about what they see and hopefully make a connection too.
