Liz Jones is a printmaker and textile designer based in North Cumbria. All of her original prints and textile designs are based on her original linocuts.
She is hugely inspired by the natural environment and this heavily influences her designs. Most of her work is based on her rural surroundings – from garden birds to woodland creatures, each original linocut design captures a sense of the British natural world.
Her work can be separated into two distinct practises;
limited edition original reduction lino prints which are detailed and involve printing, by hand, a number of layers to build up an image, carving away the printing block to preserve the previous layer of colour; and,
textile designs which also begin as a linocut but are then either transferred onto silk screens to be screen printed by hand or sustainably printed in Britain onto natural fabrics to make a selection of homeware. These include lampshades, cushions, napkins and larger pieces such as handprinted tables.
Keeping quality and sustainability at the heart of her work, she mainly uses natural fabrics such as organic cotton and linen, with British wool cushion fillers.
Liz runs lino printing workshops in Cumbria at a variety of skill levels – from single-colour linocut printing to 2 colour reduction linocut workshops (which are suitable for beginners or those wishing to build on their existing skills).
She also runs a shop with a fellow maker, showcasing local and original artists and creatives from the Cumbria and Dumfries & Galloway region.
