Becky Grant is a wildlife and pet portrait artist based in Grangemouth, Scotland. Working primarily in watercolour, she has recently begun exploring other mediums, continuing to develop and expand her expressive approach to painting.
Becky began her artistic journey as a self-taught artist, initially focusing on sketching from life. She later joined an online art school led by professional watercolour artist Jean Haines, where she developed her distinctive loose and expressive style, as well as her passion for painting animals.
Her work has been exhibited at a local gallery and displayed in a local café, and she regularly creates commissioned pet portraits, capturing the individuality and character of much-loved animals.
Becky draws much of her inspiration from the wildlife she encounters on her daily walks, alongside her lifelong love of dogs. Her aim is to capture not only the appearance of her subjects, but their personality and spirit, with particular attention to the expression in their eyes.
She often uses generous areas of white space around her subjects, allowing the viewer to connect with the animal without unnecessary distraction. Bold colour, expressive marks and varied texture bring energy and a sense of fun to her paintings, while her love of nature and animals remains at the heart of her work.
