Diane is a mid-career artist and graduate of Glasgow School of Art, where she studied Fine Art Painting and Printmaking. Her practice combines elements of zoology, anthropology and habitat studies, exploring the complex relationships between people, and the spaces they inhabit. Urban architecture, particularly social housing and public space, plays a central role in her ongoing investigation of place, identity and belonging.
Recent work has focused on the postcard as a democratic and universally recognised object; a vehicle for sharing messages, memories and experiences.
Drawing on familiar locations and everyday landmarks, Diane creates fabricated scenes populated by animals and recurring motifs that act as character actors.
These interventions introduce moments of light humour and unexpected encounters, inviting viewers to engage with the work through recognition, curiosity and personal association.
By reimagining recognisable places, her work examines how stories become attached to landscapes, how memories shape our understanding of place, and how collective narratives emerge from shared experiences.
For the Artful exhibition, Diane has drawn on imagery from Falkirk and the surrounding area, creating invented yet familiar scenes describing memory, storytelling and location.
Through humour and visual playfulness, she encourages audiences to find their own connections within the work, through personal and communal histories.
Since 2010, Diane has maintained a studio practice with WASPS and Glasgow Print Studio, exhibiting widely throughout Scotland, including at the Royal Scottish Academy.
