Born in Aberdeen and raised in Yorkshire I was keen to return to Scotland at my earliest opportunity. I fondly remember helping my grandfather in his jewellery workshop, near the Ochills, being mesmerised as a child by the processes, tools, smells and general creativity that went into jewellery making. It firmly grabbed my imagination early. And is where my grandfather taught me the foundation, techniques and processes of jewellery making. I am using his tools on every piece I create today.
I went to University in Aberdeen graduating with a BSc in Adult Nursing and worked as a registered nurse on some of the busiest wards in Glasgow. After 25 years of Nursing I then took the step from hobbyist jeweller to become a professional.
I was immediately, and subconsciously, drawn to floral & botanical forms. As a keen gardener and outdoor enthusiast, I am inspired by the beauty and sculptural forms. I also love experimenting with textures and contrast. I studied Geology at school and so I really enjoy making jewellery pieces to show off stunning stones. I’m very proud to often use Scottish stones as well as a variety of beautiful stones from around the world. Scottish Stones like Skye Marble, Easdale slate, Isla Rose Marble, Scottish agates and Amethyst. And many Other stones from around the world .
I am also influenced by Greek Jewellery design. Greek friends used to send a little parcel of Greek jewellery on my birthday and I quickly fell in love with their use of silver, texture, patina and stones. These little parcels only fuelled my love of jewellery design.
