Blackbird & Bloom is the creative modern embroidery brand from Rebecca Sarah Black, an artist based in Dunfermline, Fife, where she lives with her partner and their toddler.
Originally from Edinburgh, Rebecca has been making things for as long as she can remember. She has always loved the process of turning an idea into something tangible, and in her late teens she discovered jewellery as a creative outlet. She went on to study Jewellery & Metal Design at DJCAD in Dundee, graduating with a degree that gave her the skills and confidence to develop her own creative practice.
In 2021, following a difficult period with her mental health, Rebecca found herself drawn towards embroidery. Stitching became a quiet and comforting way to spend time creating, and helped her through a challenging chapter of her life. What started as something that brought her comfort quickly grew into a new creative passion - one she wanted to explore, develop and share with others.
Today, Rebecca creates from her studio in the heart of Dunfermline, designing and making one-off embroidered pieces, custom artworks, kits, patterns and accessories. Her work is inspired by flora and fauna and traditional embroidery techniques.
When she’s not stitching or making, Rebecca loves spending time outdoors with her family, enjoying a hot chocolate and having a good chat - especially when autumn arrives and the leaves begin to turn.
