I live and work in a beautiful valley nestled between the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales National Parks. I love walking in the wild open spaces around me.
These moments constantly inspire me; at the heart of my work is a passion for creating beautiful, bespoke pieces that explore our experiences and memories of place and the landscape.
I studied Psychology at Bath University and went on to Bristol School of Art for an Arts Foundation course. I completed a master’s degree in fine art at the University of the West of England and was awarded a distinction for my work exploring how art can convey an experience of place, using the medium of large-scale site-specific pinhole installations.
Over the years my work has evolved, and I now work exclusively with ceramics and vintage maps.
The bespoke papercut and ceramic artwork I create involves a wealth of research to carefully select sections of vintage maps and unique texts. Gorgeous colours from the old maps are used to create rich geohistoric landscapes, the individual pieces of which are secured in place with elegant entomology pins.
My range of wheel thrown ceramics is inspired by the beautiful and wild landscapes that surround me. Each handcrafted piece is designed to feel calm, grounding and timeless in everyday use; a small moment of landscape inspiration within your day.
The stoneware clay I use develops a warm, organic, rustic quality that works in harmony with the glazes, creating depth and character. My glaze palettes feature earthy, matte glazes with soft gradients that echo the tones and transitions found in the natural landscape.
