Kirsty Moyes is a self-taught mixed-media artist whose practice explores the relationship between found objects, vintage ephemera, handmade papers and the written word. Drawing on a lifelong appreciation for the character and history held within everyday objects, Kirsty creates distinctive artworks that give new life to items that might otherwise be overlooked or discarded.
With a teaching degree and 20 years’ experience as an educator, Kirsty brings a strong sense of curiosity, communication and storytelling to her creative practice. Her background in education has influenced the way she approaches her work, with an emphasis on exploration, experimentation and discovering new possibilities within familiar materials.
The written and typed word forms an important part of Kirsty’s visual language. Vintage type, printed text, fragments of lettering and found typography are incorporated into her work as both design elements and carriers of meaning. Combined with self-made papers, vintage curios, found objects and layered mixed-media techniques, these elements create works that reflect themes of memory, history, nostalgia and transformation.
Kirsty’s practice is grounded in the belief that objects have stories to tell. By combining old and new, she reinterprets forgotten materials and gives them renewed purpose, creating contemporary artworks that celebrate imperfection, texture and the beauty of the past.
