It's the National Year of Reading. Time to #GoAllIn!
Everyone knows reading expands worlds, sharpens minds, and fuels creativity. But fewer of us are making time for it.
We’re finding it harder to focus. That little rectangle in your pocket isn’t helping. We’re doomscrolling. Looking for dopamine hits. Trying to distract our busy brains.
Do you know what helps? Reading!
Reading calms your mind, transports you to a different place, and gets you out of your own shoes and into some else’s.
It’s also the perfect way to explore your interests more deeply.
If you’re into it. Read into it.
The national campaign encourages you to reconnect reading with the things that already inspire you – from playlists and football, to films, nature, food, and family time.
How to make time for reading
🤏Start small. 10 minutes a day. Build a routine.
💡Think about the things you love and read into them.
🎥 That TV show or film you’ve been glued to? There’s a good chance it was a book first.
🍜 Pick books with short chapters – perfect for lunch breaks.
🎶 Look up song lyrics. Try poems.
📲 Use that distracting wee box to read eBooks on your commute.
🎧 Try an audiobook when you’re getting your steps in, or to liven up chores.
Need a bit of inspo?
Visit a library or bookshop – see what pulls you in. It’s okay to judge a book by its cover.😊
Ask us! We’ve a book for every age, interest and occasion. Also book clubs, reading and author events…
Download a library app. You don’t need to shell out for Audible. Falkirk Libraries have free apps for reading, listening and learning.
And most importantly: Read how and what you enjoy. Reading should fit around how you live.
