Purple Tuesday

Today is Purple Tuesday; a national day of action focusing on the customer experience for disabled people.

 Falkirk Community Trust is dedicated to providing the best customer experience and providing accessible offerings to all our customers, including;

Active Forth, Falkirk's physical activity referral programme. The aim of the programme is to give people who are diagnosed with a health condition or recovering from injury/rehab the opportunity to become more active. Members on our 24 week structured exercise programme will be support by our friendly, motivating and highly qualified staff. You can find out more here: https://www.falkirkcommunitytrust.org/fit-and-active/active-forth/

Callendar House is fully accessible for wheelchair users and can cater for anyone with specific access requirements. Entry to the house is free with advanced booking required for entry to the house and Tea Room. Whether you wish to tour the museum, visit our gift shop or tearoom, view artwork in our Park Gallery, search our Archives, or enjoy a delicious afternoon tea, we guarantee an unforgettable experience. To find out more about accessibility at the house: https://www.falkirkcommunitytrust.org/media/3451/vs-accessibility-guide-callendar-house.pdf  Please note, in order to keep our staff and customers safe we have implemented some changes including that entrance to the building for all is now via the side entrance.

Everyone is welcome at the Hippodrome and it’s fully accessible for wheelchair users with a ramp and handrails at the entrance, there’s also an adapted W/C on the ground floor. The Hippodrome offers Autism Friendly screenings, Audio Description and captioning on selected titles and selected screenings. For more information: https://www.hippodromecinema.co.uk/about/accessibility/ Due to the current tier system we are unable to provide a reopening date, but look forward to welcoming visitors back when we are permitted to do so.

We are proud that our cultural venues were the first in the UK to sign up to Neatebox Welcome, an app that improves interactions between customer service teams and people with disabilities by making staff aware of the specific needs of their visitors in advance of their arrival. What we liked about the Neatebox Welcome approach is that it raises the confidence of both visitors and staff and helps to build lasting relationships by allowing customers to comfortably alert staff to their individual needs.

The Mariner Centre and Grangemouth Sports Centre are both wheelchair accessible and  include Changing Places accessible toilets meeting the needs of people with profound and multiple learning disabilities, as well people with other physical disabilities such as spinal injuries, muscular dystrophy and multiple sclerosis. People with these needs often require extra equipment and space to allow them to use the toilets safely and comfortably. The Home Library Service is especially for people who find it difficult to get out and about because of disability, illness, shielding or because they're caring for someone. It's also perfect for people who struggle to carry heavy library books. You can even use the service on a temporary basis eg if you've had an operation or accident. Visit the Helix, Home of the Kelpies. The Helix pathways are as accessible as possible for all and all pathways within the park are smooth and flat. Our visitor centre has wheelchair access so you can browse our unique range of souvenirs and keepsakes or try some of our freshly prepared food. A new Changing Places toilet opened at The Helix Park earlier this year ensuring families can now enjoy the network of pathways across the park and visit the stunning Kelpies sculptures. Find out more: https://www.thehelix.co.uk/
