OBE Award
Falkirk Community Trust's CEO, Maureen Campbell awarded OBE
Maureen Campbell, Chief Executive of Falkirk Community Trust (FCT) and former Chair of the Scottish Swimming Board, has been recognised in the New Year’s Honours List for Services to Swimming in Scotland. She also sits on the board of Commonwealth Games Scotland, and has been heavily involved in swimming as a competitor, teacher, coach and team manager.
Prior to working with FCT, Maureen was the Director of Community Services with Falkirk Council. She possesses strong skills in governance, as well as extensive experience of the management and delivery of complex projects and partnerships involving both capital projects and people development programmes. Chair of FCT Board, David White, said “The Board is delighted to learn of Maureen’s OBE. It is very well deserved, and reflects not only the hard work and energy she has brought to promoting swimming throughout her career, but also the ongoing development of Falkirk Community Trust and the many successes she has achieved during her time as Chief Executive.”
Maureen provided excellent leadership and direction to Scottish Swimming from the moment she joined the Board of Directors in 2004, before taking over as Chair in 2006. The change, development and success that Maureen oversaw during this time was down to many people but Maureen's leadership, vision and determination has seen Scottish Swimming develop into and be recognised as one of the leading sports governing bodies in Scotland, with significant progress and success in governance, development and performance levels of the sport. Speaking of the wider work of Scottish Swimming, Maureen said,
“Everyday swimmers and divers across Scotland are working hard to fulfil their potential in clubs in almost every pool in Scotland, as Chair of Scottish Swimming I was enormously proud to be part of the team that supported the infrastructure and created the pathway for their success.
“I have been very fortunate to work with a great staff team at Scottish Swimming and with wonderful Presidents, Board and Council members. This award is great recognition for the importance of contributing off the pool side to ensuring that everyone can swim. I’m both honoured and humbled to be recognised with this award.”
