Big Lottery Funding boosts Camelon Community Sport Hub

Plans to increase sporting and physical activity opportunities for people in Camelon have been enhanced by a National Lottery cash injection of £248,670 for Camelon Community Sport Hub, a project which Falkirk Community Trust are delighted to be supporting the local community to realise.

The money, which will support establishing and growing the Camelon Community Sport Hub over a period of 5 years, will be key to allowing the Hub to develop and flourish. Initially the funds will go towards supporting the development of existing local clubs, helping them to cater for growth through up skilling local people to national standards in sport, increasing learning and volunteering opportunities. With a focus on sport and physical activity being inclusive to all, the Camelon Community Sport Hub will make a huge impact on the local community.

Iain Campbell, Chairman for Camelon Community Sport Hub said the following: "This is great news for Camelon and Tamfourhill and on behalf of the Hub Steering Group I can say that we are delighted with the Big Lottery's decision to provide funding to the Hub over the next 5 years. The funding enables our costed plans for year one of operation to start to be implemented on the ground in Camelon, delivered through our current partner Hub clubs and organisations.

Securing this award has been the result of several years of consultation, engagement, planning and lots of hard work by many people including the Hub steering group. I'd like to thank them as well as Our Place Camelon, Falkirk Community Trust and in particular its Community Sport Hub Development Officer, Martin Wylie and Active Schools Manager Cameron Reid, and also sportscotland which financially invests in both these key Trust positions. It is due to all these organisations and individuals' efforts and expertise that we are now in such a great place as a Hub.”

Neil Brown, General Manager from Falkirk Community Trust added,“Falkirk Community Trust is delighted to have worked closely with the community as we supported the work of the Camelon CSH. The successful attraction of this funding from the Big Lottery will go a long way to improving the general health and well-being of the local community and we look forward to playing a vital role in that process in the coming years.”
