Alexander Payne – director of the much-loved wine-country road-trip film Sideways – has given us a new festive classic, perfect for the holidays. Paul Giametti plays a gruff history teacher at a New England boarding school who is forced to remain on campus over the Christmas break to mind the students with nowhere to go. Over the course of the holidays, the reluctant stragglers grow to care for each other, in this poignant but often laugh-out-loud story about loneliness, empathy and the beauty of human connection.
