Meet Reginald Denny – the most charming, hilarious silent-era film-star you’ve (probably) never heard of!   

Born in England into an acting family, Denny settled in the US after service in World War 1 and, by 1923, rose to be Universal Studios top comedy star to the end of the decade, with a career extending well into the sound era, until his final film role in the 1966 version of Batman.  In this hilarious farce he shows off his comedic chops as Tom Jones – a groom-to-be who is persuaded by his chums to join their regular poker game on the very eve of his wedding.  When the police raid the illicit gambling gathering his problems are only just beginning…

Be sure to stay for post-screening film-themed entertainment plus vintage clothing pop up and much more. The Hippodrome bar, serving soft and alcoholic drinks, will be open until 23:00.

For those partial to a ‘nip’ of “giggle water” alongside their hand of cards, a complimentary dram of 10-year-old Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky from the Glengoyne Distillery (Stirlingshire), will be offered to those lucky players, courtesy of our friends Ian Macleod Distillers.
