If you can read a map and have used a compass recently this course is for you. Most hill goers use digital mapping on smartphones at some point during their walks. This is fine when it works but having a backup is essential. The course begins with a quick refresher in our classroom and then heads out on the hill for the remainder of the day. We will look at how we relate map to ground, how we know where we are, how to measure distance accurately, strategies to move around the hill, and what to do when we are lost – without always resorting to our phones!
Prior working knowledge of map and compass and previous hill walking experience is essential for this course.
