See FAQ'SFalkirk Council is investing £1.46 million in improvements at Grangemouth Sports Complex and the Mariner Centre. The work will upgrade changing areas, toilets and selected swimming, fitness and family facilities across the two centres.
Work is planned to begin at Grangemouth Sports Complex in January 2027 and continue until March 2027. The Mariner Centre phase is planned for late March to May 2027, after the Grangemouth Sports Complex work is complete.
The programme is planned in sequence, with work at one centre completed before it begins at the other. If the Grangemouth phase takes longer than expected, the start date at the Mariner Centre may change. We will update this page as dates are confirmed.
Some facilities may need to close temporarily or operate differently while the work takes place. We are finalising the arrangements and will explain which activities are affected, what alternatives are available and what customers need to do before changes begin.
We are planning the work to keep disruption to a minimum. Some activities may continue while individual areas are unavailable, but this will depend on the work being carried out and whether suitable access and facilities can be maintained.
Before each phase begins, we will publish information about affected services, temporary closures, changing arrangements and alternatives. Please check this page and the relevant venue timetable before travelling.
• Refurbishment of the pool changing village, including new lockers and changing cubicles.
• Upgrades to the toilets and vanity area.
• Improvements to pool plant room equipment, which supports the operation of the swimming facilities.
• Installation of new maritime-themed play features for children and families.
The work will improve changing facilities and family swimming features, alongside equipment behind the scenes that supports the swimming facilities.
• Refurbishment of the pool changing village, including new lockers and changing cubicles.
• Upgrades to the foyer toilets.
• Refurbishment of the soft play toilets.
• Improvements to the health suite, which includes the sauna and steam room area.
• Modernisation of the dance studio to improve the space used for fitness and wellbeing activities.
These improvements focus on facilities that customers use before, during and after their activities. The dance studio work will improve the space used for classes, while changing and toilet upgrades will improve the customer environment.

Pool access will be affected by work to changing areas, plant equipment or other facilities. A pool may need to close even when the work is taking place outside the pool itself.
We will publish any changes to public, lane and family swimming sessions, along with details of available alternatives, before they take effect.
We know families rely on regular swimming lessons. We are working through arrangements to continue lessons wherever possible, including providing extra classes at alternative venues.
If your lesson is affected, we will contact you directly to advise on options available at one of our other venues.
If an alternative arrangement does not work for your family, please email bookings@falkirk.gov.uk or call 01324 506 850 to discuss the available options. If you find that the options available do not work for you or your family please email bookings@falkirk.gov.uk to discuss freezing your membership until your regular lesson resumes.
We aim to keep as many activities available as possible. The Grangemouth dance studio is included in the work, so some classes may need to move or be temporarily removed from the timetable.
We will confirm any changes to gym access, classes, booking arrangements or opening hours before they take effect. Any alternatives at other venues will be explained.
The Grangemouth health suite is included in the improvement programme. We will confirm any temporary closure of the sauna and steam room, the expected dates and any available alternatives before work begins in this area.
Grangemouth soft play toilets are included in the works, and new family play features are planned for the Mariner Centre. We will confirm whether soft play opening hours, toilet access, parties or family sessions need to change.
Temporary entrances, routes or changing facilities may be needed. We will publish confirmed arrangements, including information about accessible facilities, before changes begin.
If you need help planning your visit or discussing an access requirement, please contact [venue contact details].
