Muiravonside Farm to commemorate Hamish and they need your help
It was a sad time at Newpark Farm within Muiravonside Park last November when Falkirk Community Trust announced the sad passing of their Clydesdale horse Hamish.
It was a sad time at Newpark Farm within Muiravonside Park last November when Falkirk Community Trust announced the sad passing of their Clydesdale horse Hamish. Everyone at the farm had worked hard to nurse Hamish through a few months of illness, but sadly he took a turn for the worse and the difficult decision was made to let him go on the morning of Thursday 4th November.
Hamish, who was loved by many visitors and had become the face of Muiravonside Farm, had lived there over 16 years after arriving as a foal.
The staff at the farm now want to commemorate Hamish with a memorial and are asking visitors and supporters to help raise the £750 needed. To honour his memory, staff are planning a unique chainsaw carving from a single piece of large wood, created by Jonny Chainsaw who is based within Muiravonside.
Chris Lacki, Stock Keeper for Falkirk Community Trust at Muiravonside Farm says:
“I’ve worked on the farm for 20 years now and have known Hamish since he arrived as a baby, watching him grow into a true gentle giant. We used to walk around the farm together, but health and safety had to put a stop to that as he grew bigger and bigger! He also used to enjoy trying to steal my morning coffee and we made sure he got his own mug the day he had to leave us. It’s been really odd not seeing him waiting for me when I arrive in the morning, but we had to do the kindest thing for Hamish. I’ve seen many animals come and go on the farm, but Hamish was a very special horse - he was my boy.”
