Falkirk Community Trust shortlisted for three Industry Awards

Falkirk Community Trust (FCT) has been successfully shortlisted across 3 categories in the prestigious Community Leisure Awards 2020 to be held on Wednesday 20th May at the Science & Industry Museum, Manchester

Falkirk Community Trust (FCT) has been successfully shortlisted across three categories in the prestigious Community Leisure UK Awards 2020 to be held on Wednesday 20th May at the Science & Industry Museum, Manchester.

Lynne Boslem, Camelon Community Sport Hub has been shortlisted in the Outstanding Volunteer Award category. FCT’s Community Sport Hub Officer identified Lynne as a “Community Champion” very early in the inception of Camelon Community Sport Hub. The Camelon Community Sport Hub is an innovative area-based model fully supported by FCT. It was recognised early that Lynne was passionate about her local area and FCT have supported her every step of the way in achieving her vision for gymnastics.

In the Community Impact Award – Physical Activity category, the “Active Forth” project has been shortlisted. The Active & Step Forth physical activity referral & walking for health programme aims to get the population of Falkirk more active. Customers have the opportunity of a personalised gym programme and classes such as Otago, Strength & Balance, Circuits, Aqua Gym & Spinning at our 4 clubs. FCT works very closely with NHS Forth Valley and the Trust has had over 1500 referrals since January 2019.

Finally, in the Community Impact Awards – Arts, Culture and Libraries category “Care Words” has been shortlisted. In 2015 Falkirk Libraries worked in partnership with a local Alzheimer’s Scotland group to pilot reading and reminiscence sessions. Feedback showed that it gave participants a chance to share memories with each other. This meaningful activity was also fun and enjoyable and also beneficial for Day Care staff, who used the information shared to build individual’s support plans.

“This is great news for Falkirk and a significant achievement for our staff to be recognised on the national stage. The nominations are a result of the hard work by a number of people and I’d like to thank all for their contributions. The programmes shortlisted for the awards go a long way to demonstrating our continued commitment to improving the general health and wellbeing of the Falkirk area. We look forward to the outcome of the awards and to sharing our story with our peers” - Maureen Campbell OBE, CEO of Falkirk Community Trust

Falkirk Community Trust’s Inspiring Active Lives Strategy aims to enrich the lives of all residents by providing various opportunities. The Trust’s Action Plan for 2019-2020 includes Care Words as one of the services tasked with tackling well-being by engaging the most isolated and vulnerable people in our community.

The Community Leisure UK Awards 2020 recognise and celebrate the achievements of charities and social enterprises in public leisure and culture. This year will be the 4th national awards and will build on the success and positivity from previous events and are seen as an opportunity to recognise, celebrate and share the achievements of leisure and culture trusts across the UK.
