A Message From Neil Brand
In 1955, cinema was fighting a rearguard action – audiences had to be wooed out of their homes to experience entertainment that simply wouldn’t fit into a TV screen in the corner. Legendary producer Sam Goldwyn paid a million dollars for the rights to Guys and Dolls, spent six million more on the wide-screen, Technicolor star-vehicle production (equivalent to 45millions today) and cast Sinatra as Nathan Detroit and Brando as Sky Masterson to seal the deal.
Director Joe Mankiewicz shot it on studio sets that reproduced the fantasy milieu of both the Broadway show and Runyon’s tales, making it both a theatrical and cinematic experience. This is your chance to experience Hollywood glamour and Broadway glitz in perfect surroundings, with a visually and musically dazzling new big-screen restoration and top-drawer numbers to die for – Luck be a Lady, Adelaide’s Lament, Sit Down You’re Rockin’ the Boat, so many more.
