GLEAN: Early 20th Century women filmmakers and photographers in Scotland

*Pre-booking essential, booking closes 16th March 2023*

A trip to the National Library of Scotland’s (NLS) Moving Image Archive in Glasgow, for an exclusive chance to hear from curator Jenny Brownrigg (Director of Exhibitions, Glasgow School of Art) about her ground-breaking exhibition GLEAN: Early 20th Century women filmmakers and photographers in Scotland (City Art Centre, Edinburgh, 12 Nov 22 - 12 March 23).

Discover the previously untold story of Scotland’s pioneering women filmmakers and photographers (including HippFest featured Jenny Gilbertson, Helen Biggar and Isobel Wylie Hutchison) whose work documented the breadth of Scottish communities, from rural to urban settings, from communities to individuals. The talk will delve further into the exhibits drawn from a wide selection of private and public collections including the NLS Moving Image Archive.

The trip will include a lunch from the Kelvin Hall Cafe and a chance to explore the Archive. The National Library of Scotland collects, preserves and promotes access to films capturing Scotland and her people, from the early days of film-making to the present day. Visiting the Moving Image Archive offers a behind-the-scenes look at the work in collections, preservations and exhibitions they undertake.

Prince includes return transport from Bo’ness to Glasgow, talk and lunch (vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free option available).

The bus leaves the Hippodrome at 10.30 and returns at 14.15.
