March for 16 Days Against Gender-Based Violence

PLEASE NOTE: this event starts at Forth Valley College and finishes at The Kelpies

The event is part of the Launch Event for the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence. This is an international campaign used globally to call for the prevention and eradication of Violence Against Women and Girls. It starts on the 25th of November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women – Day of the event – and finalises on the 10th of December, Human Rights Day.

The launch event will start at Forth Valley College; everyone is welcome to attend and it will be an opportunity to network and meet people who are committed to ending Violence Against Women and Girls. There will also be an art exhibition with work by an artist with lived experience of sexual violence with the opportunity to hear from the artist how this work was developed. The event will have speakers from Forth Valley College, Forth Valley Rape Crisis and Falkirk Council.

After the exhibition, everyone is welcome to join the march to the Kelpies. If you wish to participate in this march, please dress appropriately for the weather and wear shoes that are suitable for walking on rough or slippery surfaces. People have the options to bring a torch, something that can make a noise and of course, wear anything orange as this is the colour that the United Nations has given to this campaign. This walk will be fully accessible and there will be a second joining point at the playpark in the Helix, next to the crossing lights, for those who prefer to join the march from there. If you wish to join the march from there, you should be at the playpark by 16:00. There is parking available at Falkirk College or at Falkirk Stadium (4 Stadium Way, Falkirk, FK2 9EE)

Once the march arrives at the Kelpies, there will be an opportunity to take pictures as the Kelpies will be lit up orange for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. At the Kelpies, people with lived experience will close the event.
