The area between Corrour and Dalwhinnie contains many hills and possible adventures. By using the rail network we can travel more sustainably from Falkirk, deposit ourselves in remote Corrour – made more famous due to the scene in the film Trainspotting - head east over five Munros and a bonus Corbett, dropping down to the highest village in the Highlands, Dalwhinnie, for the train back. It’ll take three days, so two nights camping in the wilds carrying all our kit. Stats come out at 43.7km with 2470 metres of ascent, most of it on hill paths and access tracks - So it’s not an epic.
We can meet at the Base in Skinflats at 0630, get a lift to Falkirk High (or meet there) for the train to North departing at 07:42 arriving at Corrour at 11:21. We then head over Beinn na Lap to camp by Loch Ghuilbinn. 12.2km with 570 metres of ascent. A fairly easy day to reflect the later start as well as the heavy bags.
The is the bigger day with Beinn Eibhnn, Aonach Beag, Geal Charn & Carn Dearg to go over before dropping to Loch Pattack to camp. 14.5km with 1240 metres of ascent.
A traverse of The Fara, that nearly Munro hugging the northeast shore of Loch Ericht, then getting down to the A899 road and Dalwhinnie for the train back. Timetable to aim for is 16:56 leaving and arriving in Falkirk Grahamston at 19.16.
The price of the train fares is payable by the participant. £22.40 out, £41.80 return. This trip is achievable to anyone who enjoys a day in the hills. It’s suitable for novices as well as more seasoned walkers. We can assist with camping equipment if required. A full kit list will be sent out prior to the trip.
