Sally Sutherland Designs
Sally Sutherland is a glass artist specialising in the intricate process of lampworking, a technique that uses the flame of a torch to melt and shape rods of glass into delicate sculptures and highly detailed beads.
Originally from Norfolk, Sally has spent the past 25 years in the West of Scotland. Her journey into glass began two decades ago with a bead-making class, sparking a fascination that has grown through years of hands-on experimentation and the occasional masterclass.
She taught a short class for Northlands Creative in 2019 and Demonstrated to her peers at the Flame Off in 2013.
Sally’s work is deeply rooted in the contrasting landscapes she has called home from the quiet coastline and marshes of East Anglia to the dramatic hills and lochs of Scotland. Her pieces often reflect a sense of place, layered with imagination and a touch of whimsy.
Drawing inspiration from mythology, folklore, and the nostalgic lens of childhood, Sally creates miniature worlds in glass, each bead or sculpture telling a fragment of a larger story. Her practice is as much about play and discovery as it is about precision and technique, and this balance brings a distinct personality to her work.
Sally continues to work from her small studio on the west coast, where she is surrounded by the ever-changing weather and wild beauty that fuel her creativity.
