Madeleine Hand
The subjects of my paintings often go hand in hand with the changing of the seasons. I record the varying weather patterns and the different emotions evoked by the passage of time.
I grew up in a farm in Lanarkshire and remember being mesmerised by watching crops of wheat and barley making waves in the breeze. My paintings reflect this time. Weather cycles, harvest and celebration are often themes I come back to.
Helping at a community growing project in Dunkeld with family and friends has also provided me with a lot of inspiration.
I have spent many holidays in the East Neuk of Fife . The structure of the harbour walls, outdoor swimming pools and coastal walks are recurring themes in my work.
Design elements are always integral to my painting. I love inventing textile designs and try to capture movement and pattern in figure and landscape compositions.
My influences include the work of Evelyn Dunbar, Eric Ravilious , Clare Leighton and John Craxton.
