Cal Scott - Hooper Hart
Hooper Hart was established by Cal Scott in 2015. Since graduating in 1997 from Edinburgh College of Art with a BA Hons in Design & Applied Arts, Cal has worked in various media including ceramics, graphic design and textiles. Her interest in printmaking and a love of colour and surface pattern led her to start screen-printing on plywood, which gradually developed into an interest in creating depth by using layers of wood instead of ink.
Over the past 10 years she has developed this technique to create framed and boxed dioramas, moving away from graphic pattern towards a freer, hand-painted style. Influenced by memories from childhood, and her time working on stage sets in the theatre, these ever-evolving designs have grown out of a desire to create contained, immersive little worlds. She uses the landscape, flora and fauna of Scotland, as well as storytelling and the occasional touch of folklore as inspiration for each unique piece.
