For many years now the Advanced Higher course in Art & Design has helped students across Falkirk’s Secondary School’s to build folios that have allowed them to go on to study courses in creativity far and wide.
The Shining a light exhibition has been curated to highlight the quality of our most recent cohort of Sixth year student’s artwork in 2025. This will be the fourth year of the exhibition.
The work is selected from across all Secondary schools in the Falkirk area. Bo’ness, Braes, Carrongrange, Denny, Falkirk, Grangemouth ,Graeme, Larbert and St Mungo’s.
The exhibition features original artwork as well as video and text describing the influences and ideas behind the work and offers an insight into the creativity and inspirational thinking of our young people.
The exhibition is designed to provide students past and present the opportunity to showcase their work in a professional context and to reflect the potential they have to shine within the creative industries.
An additional highlight of the show are the influential stories from former pupils and what they have gone on to achieve.
Calum Stevenson, the 2021 winner of Sky portrait artist of the year and a former pupil of Denny High School’s work featured in 2023 as did Shauni Douglas, Jacqueline Marr fine artist who studied at St Mungo’s High School was shown in 2024 and Iona McCuaig a former pupil of Graeme High School , now jewellery designer and lecturer at Birmingham School of Jewellery in 2025 and successful fashion stylist Stuart Williamson who is a former student of Grangemouth High School will show his work in this exhibition.
The exhibition is a celebration of how art and creativity is taught in schools. Our aim is to encourage and inspire current pupils across all schools in Falkirk and open up the prospect of a career within the creative industries as being an achievable and realistic opportunity.
Hope to see you soon.
