New Found Sound

BSL-English supported event
New Found Sound is a long-standing HippFest favourite. This unique schools initiative invites talented young people from the Falkirk District to create and perform music, with guidance from tutors Jane Gardner, Gregor Blamey and John Somerville, to accompany silent film from the National Library of Scotland's Moving Image Archive.

Our young composers will premiere their new accompaniment for Camera Makes Whoopee, filmed by pioneering Scottish animator Norman McLaren and his collaborators including Helen Biggar. This spirited film uses pixelation, superimposition, and animation to display the staging of the famous art school's ball, wittily tapping into the aesthetic sensations conjured by this free-spirited event.

The Falkirk Schools Trad Bands will accompany Glasgow Gets to Work - aboard steam trains, trams, buses and ferries, witness the hustle and bustle of St Enoch's Station, the crowds at Hampden Park for the Scottish Cup final, and the horses and carts crossing the Clyde. Take a trip underground and explore the Kelvinbridge Subway station, or venture through now-redundant rotundas to tunnel your way under the river.

The Falkirk Junior Trad Band accompanies Summer in Scotland; a charming portrait of a day in high summer. A wee girl and her West Highland Terrier get up to mischief around the farm where she lives.
