Bo’ness at War

During the Second World War Bo’ness Harbour was requisitioned by the Royal Navy and renamed HMS Stopford. The Special Operations Executive used it as a training base for tank landing craft crews and it was here that local firms made the necessary alterations for D-Day.  Up the road in Bridgeness they made motor torpedo boats, which were much enjoyed by the Bo’ness Sea Scouts.  In the other direction was Satellite Factory No. 1 which made petrol cans for the Army.  This was on top of all of the usual wartime activity connected with the Home Guard, Air Raid Precautions and rationing.  All of this and so much more will be illustrated in a homely talk.
